'Doonesbury' Singer Joins NetAid

Fictional singer Jimmy Thudpucker, a character in the "Doonesbury" comic

strip, is recording a song for the international NetAid benefit. Readers

can listen to the studio sessions for "Too Poor" online at the strip's

website (www.doonesbury.com). The NetAid concerts (Oct. 9) in

New York, London and Geneva will include sets by U2 singer Bono,

Wyclef Jean, Jewel and others. They aim to raise awareness

about global poverty. In recent weeks, the "Doonesbury" storyline has

focused on Thudpucker's distributing his songs directly to fans using

the MP3 downloadable music format.
