Elvis Presley further solidified his title as the King of Rock 'n' Roll this month when 18 of his albums were certified gold (500,000 copies shipped) or platinum (1 million), and 22 previously certified albums and singles reached new levels of gold and platinum. New awards were handed out for Blue Christmas (1992) and Elvis Presley Recorded Live on Stage in Memphis (1974), among other records. The rock pioneer has amassed a total of 80 gold albums, 43 of which have also been certified as platinum, and 19 of which stand at multiplatinum, according to the Recording Industry Association of America, the organization that presents the awards. By contrast, runner-up Barbra Streisand has a total of 40 gold albums and the Beatles have landed 33 platinum discs.
