Coolio pleaded guilty Wednesday (July 7) to a gun-possession
charge in Torrance, Calif., and was sentenced to 10 days in jail,
according to clerk Ruth Gilliland at Torrance Superior Court. The
Grammy-winning rapper (born Artis Leon Ivey) also was placed on two years' probation and ordered to perform 40 hours of community service, Gilliland said. Coolio, who was charged with carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle in September, previously pleaded no contest to the charge but changed the plea to not guilty in April. His lawyer, Steven K. Hauser, could not be reached for comment by press time on why his client again changed his plea. Coolio has until Sept. 7 to serve the jail time.
