The Smashing Pumpkins have recorded more than 60 percent of their next

album and hope to wrap the project in the first half of August, according to the group's

official website (www.thesmashingpumpkins.com). More than 20 songs — about

half of which they played on their spring club tour — are being considered for

inclusion in the follow-up to Adore (1998), which took the band in a quieter,

electronically influenced direction. The new album, targeted for a fall release, is said to

be rock-oriented.
