Alternative Tentacles Celebrates 20 Years

Punk label Alternative Tentacles celebrated its 20th anniversary with a show featuring sets by the Creeps on Candy, the Hellworms and others Saturday (June 26) at San Francisco's Great American Music Hall. Label founder and former Dead Kennedys frontman Jello Biafra served as MC for the evening, delivering anecdotes about the label's history and joining the Crucifucks for a run through the Dead Kennedys' "Forward to Death" to close out the evening. Old scenesters, band alumni and former label employees turned out for the gig, which included champagne and a giant cake with AT's bat logo, according to former label manager Greg Werckman. Best known as home to the Dead Kennedys, Alternative Tentacles also has released albums by the Butthole Surfers, Nomeansno, Mojo Nixon and others.
