A two-CD compilation from the K-tel label, Exposed Roots (June 29),
will feature some of alt-country's biggest names, including Lucinda
Williams, Gillian Welch, Whiskeytown, Jimmie Dale
Gilmore, the Meat Puppets, the Jayhawks, Steve
Earle, Southern Culture on the Skids and many more. The
popularity of alt-country, an interpretation of country music that blends
conventional instrumentation with rock 'n' roll sensibility, is giving
rise to new names in the genre. Exposed Roots chronicles the genre
from its country roots to its new and rising stars, including
Tangletown, which features Seth Zimmerman, folk-rock legend
Bob Dylan's nephew.
