George Jones Pleads Guilty To DWI

Country singer George Jones admitted Wednesday (May 12) he was

drunk when he crashed his car into a bridge abutment two months ago near

his home in Franklin, Tenn. The 67-year-old singer, who was in critical

condition for several days after the March 6 accident, pleaded guilty to

charges of driving while intoxicated and possessing an open container of

alcohol, according to Judy Mangrum, a deputy clerk at Williamson County

(Tenn.) Circuit Court. Jones was ordered to pay $550 in fines and attend

a drug and alcohol rehabilitation program, Mangrum said. The Tennessee

Highway Patrol reported it found an opened bottle of vodka under the

driver's seat of Jones' car after the accident.
