Eric Clapton, who has fought a long battle against alcohol and
drug addiction, plans to perform a booze-free, invitation-only New Year's
Eve gig at an undisclosed location in England. The veteran blues rocker
told BBC-TV interviewer David Frost that he started giving private,
alcohol-free concerts 12 years ago. "We devised this little thing where
we put on a dance," Clapton said. "It's all very secret; it's like a little
gathering of people who don't drink any more and we go down there and
we have a normal knees-up without the alcohol." Last year Clapton opened
a nonprofit rehab clinic on the Caribbean island of Antigua.
