'Little Bit O' Soul' Writer To Play N.Y.

Veteran singer/songwriter John Carter, who was a member of the

British pop group the Ivy League in the 1960s and wrote or

co-wrote hits for Herman's Hermits, the Music Explosion

and Brenda Lee, will play his first-ever U.S. show Saturday

(May 8) in New York. Carter's songs include the hits "Can't You Hear

My Heartbeat" and "Little Bit O' Soul." He also did backup vocals on

songs by the Who, Tom Jones and others, and sang lead

vocals on the New Vaudeville Band's 1966 #1 hit "Winchester

Cathedral." He's scheduled to play a free show at the Fort at the

Sidewalk Cafe in New York's East Village.
