Legendary country singer/songwriter Johnny Cash will make a rare

public appearance during an all-star tribute concert in his honor Tuesday

night (April 6) at Hammerstein Ballroom in New York, according to event

spokesperson Jane Cha. Cash is slated to sing his hit "Jackson," Cha

said. The 67-year-old performer has rarely performed in recent years

because of his ongoing battle with Shy-Drager syndrome, which impairs

speech and vision and causes blood pressure to fluctuate. He also battled

pneumonia last year. The tribute, which is scheduled to include

performances by rockers Sheryl Crow and Dave Matthews,

country singers Emmylou Harris, Willie Nelson, Lyle

Lovett and others, will be broadcast Sunday, April 18, on TNT.
