Public Enemy's Chuck D, Everclear's Art Alexakis
and Bad Religion's Greg Graffin have signed on for the
fall 1999 Spitfire tour, according to tour spokesperson Sarah Haynes.
The tour, created in part by Zack de la Rocha of Rage Against
the Machine, features celebrities and activists hitting college
campuses to discuss global issues through spoken word, music and film.
It debuted last fall with four shows, which organizers plan to follow up with
about 20 more shows beginning in September. The artists who participated
in the inaugural dates, including former Nirvana bassist Krist
Novoselic, Amy Ray of the Indigo Girls and Jello
Biafra of the Dead Kennedys, are expected to return in the
fall. Porno for Pyros frontman Perry Farrell and R.E.M.'s
Michael Stipe have expressed interest but have not committed due
to uncertain scheduling, Haynes said.
