A 59-year-old Queens, N.Y., man was convicted Wednesday of the statutory rape and
sexual abuse of his 16-year-old daughter, who came forward after seeing a video for
R&B group Dru Hill, according to Queens prosecutor Laurie Israel. The "Never
Make a Promise" video depicts a young girl who is rescued from parental abuse by her
boyfriend. The video "helped give me the courage to tell somebody," the girl, who lives in
Brooklyn, was quoted as saying in the New York Daily News. Her father faces up
to 11 years in prison.
