Bobby Troup, 'Route 66' Writer, Dies

Songwriter/pianist Bobby Troup died Sunday evening in Sherman Oaks, Calif.,

of a heart attack, according to a spokesperson at Sherman Oaks Hospital and Medical

Center. He was 80. Troup was best known for the classic American road song "(Get Your

Kicks On) Route 66," which he composed in 1946. He later put songwriting aside to focus

on acting, landing roles on the TV series "Emergency!" and the film "M*A*S*H."
