Elliott Smith To Launch U.S. Tour

Outing to follow recording session for next album.

Singer/songwriter Elliott Smith kicks off a 26-date U.S. tour this month that will take him from his home in the Pacific Northwest, down the West Coast and across the South before closing in the Northeast.

The tour, which begins Feb. 23 in Seattle, will follow a week of recording with producers Tom Rothrock and Rob Schnapf -- one of several planned sessions for Smith's fifth solo album.

"We're going to keep doing this throughout the year," Rothrock said last month of the studio sessions. "When it's time for him to have a new record, we'll have 20 songs ready to go, and we'll put a record together out of it."

Rothrock and Schnapf co-produced Smith's breakthrough XO (1998), which included such songs as "Amity" (RealAudio excerpt) and "Baby Britain" (RealAudio excerpt).
