'Very Special' Artists Do Holiday Show

Superstar singer/songwriter Sheryl Crow, guitar legend Eric Clapton, R&B vocalist Mary J. Blige, singer/songwriter Tracy Chapman, rap pioneers Run-D.M.C., singer/actor Jon Bon Jovi and pop chanteuse Vanessa Williams are scheduled to sing holiday songs Dec. 17 in Washington, D.C., to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Special Olympics, according to Special Olympics President and CEO Timothy P. Shriver. All of the artists have appeared on the series of A Very Special Christmas albums released since 1987 to benefit the Special Olympics movement, which provides sports training for the mentally retarded. The event, which will be taped for broadcast Dec. 20 on TNT, is part of a dinner hosted by President and Mrs. Clinton to honor the achievements of Special Olympics athletes. The 90-minute concert special will be hosted by actress/comedian Whoopi Goldberg.
