Corgan To Solo At L.A. Benefit

A solo Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins, glammish post-grungers Hole, rap-influenced thrashers Korn, techno-rock band Garbage and rapper Everlast are among the artists slated to perform at the 1998 KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas, a two-night benefit scheduled for Dec. 11 and 12 at L.A.'s Shrine Auditorium. The first night is set to feature feel-good pop combo Barenaked Ladies, pop-punkers Blink 182, Swedish pop-act the Cardigans, Hole, Korn, Southern California punkers the Offspring, ska-pop band Reel Big Fish and "Fly"-hitmakers Sugar Ray. On tap for the second night are the swing act Brian Setzer Orchestra, eclectic-pop group Cake, Corgan, dark electronic-pop group Depeche Mode, Everlast, Garbage, power-pop group Goo Goo Dolls, Minneapolis pop group Semisonic and arty rockers Soul Coughing. Proceeds will go to various local charities.
