U2 have added three more dates to the PopMart tour. A third New
York show at Giant's Stadium has been tacked-on for Wednesday June 4, in
addition to a second Philadelphia show on Sunday, June 8 at Franklin Field and
a second Oakland show on Thursday, June 19 at the Oakland Coliseum. Oasis will
open both of the Oakland shows.
The addition of the second Philly date
doesn't put to rest those rumors that the band will perform at the Tibetan
Freedom Concerts on New York's Randall's Island, which also take place on June
7 and 8. Even though U2's representatives wouldn't confirm a special guest
appearance by the band at the benefit, a source close to the band told ATN "as
another testament to their rep as the hardest working band in show
business...if they do decide to make an appearance, it would have to be
sandwiched between the Philadelphia shows somehow."
The scenario ATN was
given would have the band performing in Philly on Saturday night, flying to New
York right after the show, playing a Tibetan gig on Sunday afternoon and then
jetting right off to Philadelphia again for their Sunday night gig. If
they perform, that is.
Tickets for the additional shows go on sale
starting May 9 for New York, May 10 for Philly and May 11 for Oakland.
