Michael Franti & Spearhead Hit The Road

Ready to funk your body and open your mind.

Michael Franti and Spearhead are taking their words and music to the road this

month and next, but in some cases, it will be one without the other.

The

group, whose recently-released sophomore album, Chocolate Supa Highway

is a potent, earthy mix of funk, reggae, rap and a healthy dose of blunted

beats and rhymes, will co-headline a tour with hot rap combo Camp Lo starting

May 2 in Santa Cruz, California, which is preceded by a solo spoken word tour

from Franti that began yesterday in San Francisco.

The former

Beatnig/Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy member is touring the country under the

banner of "Smokin' Words" in April to celebrate National Poetry Month with a

series of performances/CD signings, some of which will feature a collaboration

with world music collective Zap Mama, on whose new album Franti performs and

co-produces a few tracks.

The tour with Camp Lo will find Spearhead

fleshed out with an eight-member live band and will feature an opening set from

new hip-hop brass band, Coolbone.
