Screaming Trees singer Mark Lanegan was arrested Thursday morning (March 27)
for possession of hard drugs, according to a source at the group's label, Epic
Police busted Lanegan early Thursday morning in San Francisco's
seedy Tenderloin (home to hookers, dealers and runaways), near Eddy Street, in
the vicinity of the Phoenix (a "rock 'n' roll" hotel popular with mid-level
touring bands), where the Trees were staying.
The group was in town to
play a pair of shows at Slim's (March 26 & 27) , the final two on a two-week,
10-date West Coast tour that began with three shows in Seattle. Both San
Francisco shows went off without incident; Lanegan was bailed out by a
management representative in time for the Thursday night performance.
Trees have not yet begun working on the follow-up to last year's Dust.
Drummer Barrett Martin is about to hit the road with Tuatara, which also
features R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck, Luna's bassist Justin Harwood, Pearl Jam
guitarist Mike McCready and Skerik Walton from Critters Buggin', who will be
sharing the bill with Mark Eitzel and the Minus Five.
