A huge day-long rock festival is being planned for June 21
at the Texas International Raceway, according to a report in today's L. A.
Times. The fest is being funded by Blockbuster Entertainment with an eye to
upping their media exposure and hipness quotient.
Artists set to play the
event thus far include Bush, No Doubt, Counting Crows, the Wallflowers, Jewel
and Collective Soul.
Three hundred thousand attendees are expected,
according to the Times. Blockbuster will be doing extensive marketing
and promotion: three months of promotional tie-ins and in-store displays; the
CD and video chain has 4,200 outlets, making it the largest music retailer in
the U. S.
