Violent Femmes Day In The Sun

Is the world finally ready for them?

The Violent Femmes, who are currently recording a new

album, have re-cut their classic 1983 ode to masturbation, "Blister In The

Sun," for inclusion in the film Grosse Pointe Blank (April 11) and on

the soundtrack (March 18). The group--singer/guitarist Gordon Gano, bassist

Brian Ritchie and relatively new drummer Guy Hoffman (who can on board in

1993)--will also be featured in the video for "Blister In The Sun," which is

directed by Evan Bernard (Beastie Boys, Cibo Matto).

The Grosse Pointe

Blank soundtrack will feature two versions of the song, one of which sticks

to the original arrangement, and one that doesn't. The soundtrack will also

include songs by the Clash, the English Beat, David Bowie and Queen, Guns 'N

Roses, Johnny Nash, Faith No More, the Specials, the Jam, Los Fabulosos

Cadillacs and Pete Townshend. The film was scored by ex-Clash singer/songwriter

Joe Strummer.
