Waitin' On Folk Implosion

One half of Folk Implosion.

If you, like us, were taken by the Deluxx Folk Implosion

tracks that comprised much of the Kids soundtrack, then get ready for

Dare To Be Surprised, which marks the return of Folk Implosion. A

preview in the form of a three song EP that includes "Pole Position" off the

album, plus two non-album tracks ("Opening Day" and "Summer's Over") arrived

the other day, and its only further wetted out appetite for the album.

Opening with the distorted strum of a guitar, "Pole Position," teases with

a dissonant intro before settling into a hypnotic groove with pop-style harmony

vocals. "You were the king now they've torn your paper crown," sing the Folk

Implosion dudes, Lou Barlow and John Davis.

As we're sure you know, Barlow

spends most of his time leading Sebadoh, while Davis is a librarian in

Cambridge, Massachusetts who has recorded a number of intriguing solo albums,

the most recent of which is Blue Mountains (Shrimper Records). Expect

Folk Implosion to hit the road in March. No details yet on whether they'll

perform as a duo, or add a few musicians to fill out their sound.
