Jerry Garcia: Gone But Not Forgotten

Remembering the man. Photo by Jay Blakesberg.

It was one year ago today that Grateful Dead leader Jerry

Garcia died. Garcia was one of the most inventive improvisatory guitarists of

the past 30 years. His distinctive, crystalline sound was a key element that

defined the Dead, as was his singing voice. Garcia and Robert Hunter co-wrote

many of the group's best songs. Somehow, though, none of that quite seems to do

justice to the man who was once known as Captain Trips. A moment of silence, in

memory of Jerry, is certainly called for during your busy day.
