Depeche Mode have become the target of a mail fraud that is thought to have cost them almost Ÿ100,000 ($155,000), according to a report in Melody Maker. The band's accountant had sent a number of checks to the tax office th
at never got arrived (sure, sure). Apparently, thieves have intercepted them, altered them, and deposited them into a fraudulent account. Depeche Mode isn't the only ones singled out. London police say that a team of thieves have been targeting offices of
"high earners." I'm sure Depeche Mode are flattered to be considered as such--especially since so recently it looked like the band was close to disintegration (singer David Gahan attempted suicide in Los Angeles two months ago). Happily the band are toge
ther in London, finally working on material for the follow-up to 1993's Songs Of Faith & Devotion.
