Paul Weller's Latest Release

Ex-Jam and Style Council, Paul Weller's new album, Stanley Road

is released on these shores on June 6 on Go! Discs/London. Named after

his Woking, England birthplace, the album is an eclectic mix of gospel

soul, guitar solos, and prog-funk jams. Weller's cover of Dr. John's

"Walk On Gilded Splinters," features Oasis' Noel Gallagher on guitar.

According to Gallagher, he had never heard the song before, but when

Weller (his boyhood hero) asked him to play guitar on the track, he

intimated he knew the tune welland had to fake his way through it.

His unvarnished, unimproved version is on the album for all to

hearand it ain't bad. Even better is the plaintive ballad, "You Do

Something To Me," or the epic "Whirlpool's End." Weller has nothing

left to prove, so he's comfortable just being himself , and what you

find on Stanley Road is honest emotion and minimal frills.
