R.E.M. managed to work most of the kinks out of their show by their
third night at the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View,
California. The last night of their three show stint came across as a
well-oiled affair, and less like a band just going through the
motions, as they were earlier accused. (Now who would have accused
them of that?) They attracted quite a bevy of celebrities when they
played here, including Adam Duritz of Counting Crows, Kirk Hammett of
Metallica, Stephen Dorff, Huey Lewis, Neil Young, Sheryl Crow, Mark
Eitzel from The American Music Club, and Billie Joe Armstrong of Green
Day who had donned a long, black rasta wig for the occasion, matching
the long rasta braids favored by his wife Adrienne. How did we know it
was Billie Joe? He kept fiddling with the wig, pulling it on and off.
He mentioned something about wanting to watch the show from the seats,
and was afraid he would be recognized. Do you think he's been talking
to Eddie Vedder?
