had a perfect "dog-ate-my-homework" excuse. He got caught in traffic due to a
turned over truck hauling chickens to meet Colonel Sanders. "There were
feathers flying everywhere," he said. Luckily Mathis' timing was a lot better
when he and his band left Atlanta, Georgia the day before that nasty bomb went
off at the Olympics.
The Squirrel Nut Zippers had played two shows a day
for a week in the Centennial Park as part of the Southern Crossroads Festival
which focused on Zydeco, Cajun, Blues, and Gospel music and was held half a
block form the explosion. Mathis was surprised as anybody when he heard the
