Today is the birthday of Fleetwood Mac singer/songwriter

Christine McVie. For a while in the '70s, Fleetwood Mac was one of the most

popular groups in the world, and their 1977 album Rumors remains one of

the best selling albums of all time. Christine Perfect, who was born today in

1943 in Birmingham, England, married original bassist John McVie and joined the

band in 1970 as a singer. Fleetwood Mac was formed by formed by ex-John

Mayall's Bluesbreakers Peter Green (guitar), Mick Fleetwood (drums), McVie

(bass), and Elmore James fan Jeremy Spencer (guitar, vocals) in 1969. In 1975

Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks joined the band, resulting in Fleetwood

Mac's most successful lineup; for the next fifteen years, every album the band

recorded went platinum. In 1984 Christine McVie released a commercially

successful solo album, Christine McVie. Since 1990, while McVie has

remained a recording member of Fleetwood Mac, she has not toured with the band.
