Rapper Queen Latifah's Put On Probation

Grammy-winning rapper and TV actress Queen Latifah was

fined and put on probation for two years yesterday ( Friday, Mar. 1) for

carrying a loaded gun in her car and driving without a valid license,

Reuters reported yesterday. Latifah, whose real name is Dana Elaine

Owens, did not have to appear because both charges were misdemeanors. The

rapper/TV star, who is 25, was stopped by a California Highway Patrol officer

early in the morning of Saturday, Feb. 3 for speeding on the Santa Monica

Freeway. A loaded .380 semiautomatic and some marijuana was found in the door

pocket of her 1995 BMW. She was not charged with possession of drugs. Latifah

was fined $810 and ordered her to give $2,500 to a charity for disadvantaged

youth in Los Angeles. She won a Grammy last year for her song

"U.N.I.T.Y."
