Last Tuesday, Dec. 19, Carol Schutzbank, co-founder and
editor of seminal East Coast fanzine B-Side, died at the Temple University
Hospital when her body rejected a transplanted heart; her own heart had been
crippled by a massive heart attack in February of this year, due to a rare
disease. Schutzbank was a prime mover on the Philadelphia underground rock
scene booking local clubs, managing groups and in 1987 co-founding
B-Side magazine with Sandy Garcia and Sandy Davis. She also founded the
greater Philadelphia music awards, the Delaware Valley Music Poll Awards.
Funeral services were held in Trenton on Friday Dec. 22 at the synagogue she
and her family regularly attended over the years.
