Today is the birthday of Jethro Tull's Dave Pegg, born this day 1947.
Named after an 18th century agriculturist, the band formed in 1968
after performing briefly as The John Evan Band. Jethro Tull gained
success in the late '60s UK music scene appearing with bands like Pink
Floyd and the Rolling Stones. The Seventies saw many successful albums
for the band, both in the UK and U. S., notably Aqualung and
A Passion Play, as well as a greatest hits collection. The
next decade held many personnel changes, with several members leaving
to pursue solo projects, and new members joining on. Nevertheless, in
1988 the band embarked on a 20th anniversary tour, although only one
original member, leader/vocalist Ian Anderson, remained. The following
year the band won Best Hard Rock/ Metal Performance for their album
Crest of A Knave at the 31st Grammy Awards, have continued to
release albums and tour.
