Oasis were smashing records rather than
other people or glasses last week
when their second album (What's The Story) Morning Glory
debuted at #1 on the UK album chart. Morning Glory sold about
346,000 units over the counter in its first week,
the second biggest first week sales for any record in the UK (behind
Michael Jackson's BAD). Those numbers would have made the
album #1 in the U. S. too. Speaking of the U. S., that's where the
group is currently touring, hoping to repeat its UK success here.
Morning Glory also clocked up the biggest first
week sales in the UK ever for an album by a British act. The Oasis
album sold more than the whole top 10 added together, with
Morning Glory accounting for one of every seven albums sold in
the UK last week. Take that, Blur!
