Say It's Your Birthday: Kim Fowley

Today is the birthday of Kim Fowley born in Los Angeles in 1942. His long

career in pop began with such songs as "Stranded In the Jungle" which he

wrote and produced for the Jayhawks (not the current group of that name,

obviously). He continued with "Nut Rocker" by B. Bumble and The Stingers,

"Cherry Pie" by Skip and Flip, "Alley Oop" by the Hollywood Argyles and "Papa

Oom Mow Mow," by The Rivingtons. His many singles and albums of his own work

have created a cult following for him--and some even accuse him of being the

real Hannible Lechner. Even more remember him as discovering, launching and

producing the Runaways.
