Kelley Make a Deal

On June 5, Judge Walter Porter granted Kelley Deal's request to

continue drug rehabilitation at the Hazelden Foundation in Center

City, Minn., instead of going to trial in Dayton, Ohio for possession

of heroin. After her request was granted, Deal then pleaded guilty. If

she successfully completes treatment, the plea will not be placed on

her record. She could have been sentenced to up to eighteen months in

jail, and fined $2,500. Deal, the thirty-three year old co-founder of

the Breeders signed for delivery of a Federal Express package

containing more than three grams of heroin at her home November 30,

1994 and was arrested shortly afterward. The case was set to go to

trial next month (July).
