Wrestler Turned Governor Tried Rock

Former wrestler and current governor-elect of Minnesota, Jesse "The Body" Ventura, also had a short-lived stint as a rocker, according to pop-music critic Jim Walsh of the St. Paul Pioneer Press. In a recent column, Walsh recounted how Ventura recorded a picture-disc single, with Ventura in his signature feather boa on one side and holding a rifle on the other. Ventura recorded the single for Minneapolis-based indie-label Twin/Tone Records -- the original home of the Replacements and Soul Asylum -- in 1984. Ventura sang on the single's tunes, "The Body Rules" and "Showdown With Mr. V." The disc is now considered a collectors' item.
