Marvin P. Gay Sr., the father and killer of R&B legend Marvin Gaye, died of

pneumonia Oct. 17 in Los Angeles, according to the Associated Press. On April 1,

1984, he shot his 44-year-old son twice in the chest during a heated argument, killing

him. Gay, who was 84 at the time of his death, served five years' probation for the crime

after he pleaded no contest to voluntary manslaughter.
