Australian pop singer Natalie Imbruglia was the big winner at the Australian
Recording Industry Association Awards on Tuesday at Sydney's Capitol Theatre. The
singer, who scored an international hit with the song "Torn," took home six awards,
including Best Single, Best Female Artist and Best Pop Release, for her debut Left of
the Middle. Other big winners included Brisbane's funk-metal rockers
Regurgitator, with four awards, as well as three-time winners the
Whitlams, whose Best Group award was presented to them by former Australian
Prime Minister Gough Whitlam (no relation to the group).
