British pop singer George Michael confirmed rumors that he has
delayed his 1999 world tour, breaking the news to fans through a posting on
his official website (www.agean.net). "The tour has been postponed, and we
were not given time or the
opportunity to tell the fans first," the former leader of the '80s pop act
Wham! explained, adding later that the reasons behind the
cancellation are "more complex" than those reported in a British tabloid
last month. Michael, who was arrested for engaging in a lewd act in a
Beverly Hills, Calif., park restroom last spring, asked for his fans'
for breaking a promise and added that he had finished recording three new
songs for his upcoming greatest-hits album, due to be released Nov. 10.
