Barenaked Ladies To Headline U.S. Tour

Rising Canadian rockers have signed on to play amphitheaters as well as annual Bridge School Benefit shows.

Canada's Barenaked Ladies, emerging as stars with a unique, humorous brand of quirky

pop-rock, will begin a headlining tour of the U.S. as their run on this summer's

H.O.R.D.E. tour draws to a close, according to a source at Nettwerk Management, which

represents the band.

The 25-date tour will mark the first time that the Ladies -- whose latest album on the

Reprise label, Stunt, is comfortably ensconced in the top 10 of the Billboard

200 albums chart -- will headline amphitheater-sized venues. Their hit single

Week" (RealAudio excerpt) remains in heavy rotation on modern-rock radio

stations and, in video form, on MTV.

A highlight of their stint on the road, which will include stops from New York to San

Diego, should be a pair of performances at rocker Neil Young's annual Bridge School

Benefits (to aid children with cerebral palsy) on Oct. 17-18 at Shoreline Amphitheatre in

Mountain View, Calif.

Young's manager, Elliot Roberts, called the band to invite it to the gigs before the recent

H.O.R.D.E. (Horizons of Rock Developing Everywhere) show at Jones Beach in New

York.

"They're definitely playing [the Bridge School concerts]," said Jim Baltutis, publicist at

Reprise. "Obviously, they're looking forward to it. It's a great cause, and they're helping a

fellow Canuck [the Canadian-born Young]."
