The murderer of John Lennon has announced that he will relinquish any claim
he may have to an album that the ex-Beatles leader autographed before being
shot to death in 1980, according to Hartford, N.Y.'s Democrat and Chronicle
newspaper. An antiques dealer recently offered the album -- which convicted assassin
Mark David Chapman had Lennon sign only hours before killing him -- for sale for $1.8
million. After being informed that he may have a claim to the album, Chapman told the
paper that he had no interest in pursuing it, saying, "I have never profited from this crime,
and I never will."
