Beck Loses Another Bandmember

Following the lead of drummer Joey Waronker, who is now playing with R.E.M., Beck's guitarist Smokey Hormel has also left the hip-hop folkie's group, according to Geffen Records publicist Dennis Dennehy. Both will appear on Beck's upcoming album, Mutations (Oct. 20), which was originally intended to be released as an indie record. But it is unclear if either musician will participate in the recording of Beck's major-label follow-up to 1996's Odelay! album, currently taking place in Los Angeles.
