ODB Misses Shoplifting Hearing -- Again

Wu-Tang rapper Ol' Dirty Bastard claims to have missed his flight to Virginia for the court appearance.

For the second time in less than a month, fugitive Wu-Tang Clan rapper Ol' Dirty

Bastard has missed a Virginia Beach, Va., court hearing on charges that he

shoplifted a pair of sneakers in July.

A representative from the General District Court of Virginia Beach, who asked

not to be named, said that ODB (born Russell Jones) did not appear for a

Tuesday (Aug. 11) hearing scheduled for 11 a.m. "He missed his plane," the

representative said.

The hearing was adjourned until Thursday.

Attorneys for the 29-year-old rapper, who also goes by the names Osirus and

Big Baby Jesus, were not immediately available for comment.

Three weeks ago, Judge R.L. Simpson ordered that an arrest warrant be issued

for ODB after he failed to appear at a July 28 hearing on the theft charge. At the

time, the rapper was in California performing on a since-completed solo tour.

He was not arrested on the warrant.

The ever-unpredictable ODB is accused of shoplifting a pair of $50, size 11

Nikes from a Sneaker Stadium store on July 4. If convicted of the misdemeanor

offense, he could receive a maximum fine of $2,500 and/or a year in prison.

Tuesday's courtroom absence was just the latest in a series of misfortunes and

missteps for ODB. In June, police said the rapper was shot in the back and arm

during a Brooklyn, N.Y., robbery. An ongoing investigation in that incident has

produced no suspects. Several weeks later, ODB's Range Rover was reportedly

stolen from outside a Manhattan, N.Y., recording studio.
