Michael Jackson Casino Nixed

On Tuesday, 56 percent of Detroit voters said no to a proposal that would have given a local businessman the right to build a casino and theme park in partnership with pop superstar Michael Jackson, whose name would have been used in conjunction with the project.

Detroit businessman Don Barden's campaign for the project brought Jackson, Motown singer Stevie Wonder, Detroit boxer Tommy Hearns and activist the Rev. Al Sharpton to town, but a majority of voters weren't swayed by their celebrity status.

Barden told the Detroit News on Wednesday that he is now thinking about building a theme park in Detroit without the casino and will travel with Jackson to Seoul, Korea, to explore the possibility of building a casino resort there.
