An impromptu partial reunion of the Pixies occurred July 29 at MJI Broadcasting in Los Angeles while ex-Pixie Frank Black was at MJI to promote his upcoming release, Frank Black and the Catholics.
Black surprised everyone by enlisting a former Pixies bandmate, guitarist Joey Santiago. The duo jammed on two Pixies tunes, "The Holiday Song" and "Wave of Mutilation," which marked the first time that the two have publicly played together since the conclusion of their 1991 tour.
Santiago also lent a hand on a rendition of Larry Norman's "Six Sixty-six," which is included on Black's new album. Frank Black and the Catholics -- minus Santiago -- is due out Sept. 8.
