Bauhaus Set To Tour 19 North American Cities
Following on the heels of their successful opening stint in Los Angeles, goth-godfathers Bauhaus announced Thursday that they are extending their "Resurrection" reunion tour into a full-fledged national trek, beginning Aug. 13.
The reunited goth-rock pioneers will capitalize on the momentum gained at their kickoff shows in the City of Angels by taking their revitalized sound through 19 North American cities before grinding to a halt in New Orleans.
The group played its first show in 15 years at the Hollywood Athletic Club on July 9, followed by three consecutive, sold-out dates at the Hollywood Palladium. The Los Angeles shows drew the likes of Hole singer Courtney Love, eccentric rocker Perry Farrell and bassist Flea of the funk-punk group the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
The subsequent dates are set to kick off in mid-August with two shows in Seattle, where the band recently was re-booked in the Paramount Theatre, due to increasing ticket demand.
"Cities are wanting more than one date, and we haven't been able to accommodate everyone because of the routing," said Suzan Crane, a band spokesperson at Bauhaus' Red Ant label. "The guys are having so much fun, and it feels really good. There's no pretension there; they're not out there promoting anything -- they're doing it out of their passion for their art."
Boasting spectacular lighting and sharp-witted theatrics, Bauhaus' show features all of the old material from their original 1979-83 run, including their defining moment, "Bela Lugosi's Dead" (RealAudio excerpt), plus a few covers.
"We're basically giving people what they want with these gigs," guitarist Daniel Ash said. "We're not trying to be clever. We're playing the songs pretty faithful to the way they are on the albums."
Love and Rockets, a Bauhaus spin-off (minus frontman Peter Murphy), will release their sixth album, Lift, in October. "Once the [Love and Rockets] album comes out, we're committed," bassist David J said. "But it would be nice if we could get a [new Bauhaus] single together first, or maybe an EP."
In the meantime, a double-CD retrospective called Crackle hit stores earlier this month, and the band's 1989 live BBC album, Swinging the Heartache, will turn up in September.
