The official trailer for Christopher Nolan's World War II epic Dunkirk is finally here — and in all seriousness, this extended look at Nolan's war drama will make cinephiles and Directioners alike very, very happy.
Harry Styles, in his first feature film role, is featured prominently throughout the two-minute trailer. He joins newcomer Fionn Whitehead in a band of young soldiers during the evacuation of Dunkirk, one of the most pivotal moments for the Allies in WWII. The film, based on an original screenplay by Nolan, will also star Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Kenneth Branagh, and Oscar-winner Mark Rylance.
But let's take a moment to appreciate Styles's noteworthy performance as Tommy.
Here he is looking rather pensive on the beach. Seeing how his character literally just survived an attack from the Germans, "pensive" is probably the exact emotion Styles was going for in this scene.
Here he is again, worry etched across his face, as his fellow soldiers dodge incoming fire on a boat heading for Dunkirk. Harry Styles's Oscar era is coming.
And finally, in one of the more harrowing moments of the trailer, poor Tommy is seen on the cusp of drowning. Directioners, consider this a warning.
Dunkirk hits theaters July 21, 2017.
