Veronica Roth’s New Divergent Story Picks Up Where Allegiant Ended

What’s Four up to now?

It's been a rough year for Divergent fans, as Allegiant — the third movie in the series, starring Shailene Woodley and Theo James — didn't fare so well at the box office. As a result, its fourth and final installment will reportedly become a TV movie or a spin-off show without the franchise's star actors. But author Veronica Roth, who penned the original books her senior year of college, has good news for readers who still want more on Tris and Four.

On Thursday (December 1), Roth announced that she's releasing a short epilogue for the trilogy. We Can Be Mended picks up five years after Allegiant wraps. It'll focus on Four's life after — spoiler! — Tris's unexpected death.

"I've always said that the Divergent series felt complete to me, but a little while ago I realized there was still some of the story that I had left untold," Roth says in the clip above. "So I wrote something just for myself about what Tobias had been up to."

She fortunately decided to share those words with everyone. To get a copy of We Can Be Mended, pre-order Roth's new book — another sci-fi thriller, titled Carve the Mark — or buy it opening day on January 17, 2017.
