Never one to forget his roots in the 6 — and at Degrassi High, apparently — on Sunday night (November 20), the rapper joined former Degrassi co-star Nina Dobrev onstage at the 2016 American Music Awards. Dobrev and best friend Julianne Hough presented Drizzy with his first-ever AMA for Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Album for Views.
Upon accepting the award, Drake took a moment to shout out his fellow Degrassian. “Me and Nina were on Degrassi together, by the way,” Drake said, before addressing Dobrev directly: “Congratulations on all your success. We’ve come a long way.”
The 30-year-old rapper made his acting debut on Degrassi: The Next Generation in 2001 as Jimmy Brooks, a basketball star who became physically disabled after he was shot by a troubled classmate. It was one of the most memorable moments in the show’s 14-season history. Dobrev joined the long-running Canadian soap in Season 6 as teen mother Mia Jones. The two never really shared a scene together, but they’re both part of one big Degrassi family.
It’s good to know that no matter how big Drake gets, he’ll still take the time for his Degrassi woes.
