Ruby Rose And The Veronicas Confront Love And Drugs In New Music Video

Their relationship is tumultuous but worth it

Orange Is the New Black fans have watched Ruby Rose’s Stella Carlin struggle with substance abuse in prison. Rose’s latest character faces the same dilemma in the video for The Veronicas’ “On Your Side.”

Rose wrote and directed the video, which stars herself and Jessica Origliasso (one half of The Veronicas). The clip follows their intimate relationship, from the moment they meet to the betrayal and heartbreak that comes with Rose’s addiction to pills.

“When I first heard the song, I was drawn to the lyrics,” Rose said in a statement. “Some songs tell the first chapter of a story; others only tell the last, but here, I was listening to a full narrative of someone’s sincere experience with love.”

Origliasso echoed this sentiment: “It’s a true to life look at the passion and protection of two people falling in love and, ultimately, a love that cannot be broken.”

The two characters’ gut-wrenching reconciliation at the end of the video is a poignant reminder that — as the song’s chorus says — life isn’t always pretty.
