Pharrell’s New Song Almost Reaches ‘Happy’ Levels Of Joy

Hear ‘Crave’ from the upcoming ‘Hidden Figures’ soundtrack

No stranger to upbeat movie songs (“Happy,” anyone?), Pharrell’s worked his magic yet again for “Crave,” from the upcoming drama Hidden Figures.

The funky, feel-good number has Skateboard P’s signature buoyancy all over it, complete with hand-clapping, finger-snapping, trumpet blasts, guitar riffs, and a retro edge. “So help me / I’m on the sidewalk / I’m falling over (you got me craving) / Rockin’ back and forth,” he sings on the catchy chorus. It’s not quite “Happy” levels of ecstasy, but it’s definitely a danceable crowd pleaser.

Hidden Figures, which Pharrell co-produced, stars Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, and Janelle Monae as three women who were instrumental in helping NASA catch up in the 1969 Space Race. The film hits theaters December 25, while its accompanying soundtrack arrives December 9. The album features eight original songs from Pharrell — including the previously released “Runnin” and “Surrender” — as well as contributions from Monae, Mary J. Blige, and Alicia Keys.
